The BSP Tree
نویسنده
چکیده
DEFINITION Binary space partitioning (BSP) is a technique for recursively subdividing a space into convex sets by hyperplanes. The subdivision can be represented by means of a tree data structure known as a BSP tree. A BSP tree is thus a Point Access Method. Each node in a BSP tree represents a hyperplane which divides the space into two halves. It also contains references to two nodes which represent half-spaces.

Which Space Partitioning Tree to Use for Search?
We consider the task of nearest-neighbor search with the class of binary-spacepartitioning trees, which includes kd-trees, principal axis trees and random projection trees, and try to rigorously answer the question “which tree to use for nearestneighbor search?” To this end, we present the theoretical results which imply that trees with better vector quantization performance have better search ...
متن کاملApplication of Binary Spatial Partitioning to Computer Aided Design
Computer Aided Design (CAD) applications usually need to store and process dynamically and efficiently various drawing elements. Typically the quad-tree data structure is used in 2 dimensions and the octant-tree data structure in 3 dimensions. Here the Binary Spatial Partitioning (BSP) tree data structure is proposed for CAD applications. BSP scales better in irregular geometries such as long n...
متن کاملConversion of Binary Space
Binary Space Partitioning Trees (BSP-Trees) have been proposed as an alternative way to represent polytopes based on the spatial subdivision paradigm. Algorithms that convert from Boundary Representation (BRep) to BSP-Trees have been proposed, but none is known to perform the opposite conversion. In this paper we present such an algorithm , that takes as input a BSP-Tree representation for a po...
متن کاملBinary Space Partition Tree and Constructive Solid Geometry Representations for Objects Bounded by Curved Surfaces
Binary Space Partition (BSP) tree and Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG) tree representations are both set-theoretic binary tree representations of solid objects used in solid modeling and computer graphics. Recently, an extension of the traditional BSP tree definition has been presented, in which surfaces used in the binary partition include curved surfaces in addition to planar surfaces. We ex...
